I went to my cabin this weekend with my dad and Jack. Figured Father's Day was as good of time as any for us to have a bonding trip. And I had a great time!
We headed North Friday afternoon (thank you half day Fridays!) and were up there by about 6. We made dinner and had some time by the fire, and then it was bed time! Normally I never get to bed before midnight on a Friday, so it was kind of nice to crash at a reasonable time.
Then Saturday I woke up hoping to go on my 5-mile run. I heart running up there. Empty road. A perfect 5-mile trail. Wonderful. But it was sprinkling Saturday morning. And I've been caught in the rain up there before on a run, so I decided to skip it and either get it in later or Sunday.
So my dad and I started working. This cabin is great for relaxation, but there's also lots of work to do! And my dad is a nonstop worker, so I wanted to help him. Well, I didn't know what I had signed up for! We had two trees fall thanks to storms, so we spent all day Saturday cutting and splitting wood. I was moving some HUGE pieces of wood and was on the go until dinnertime. With no break! And then my dad had some mowing to do and instead of sitting around, I put mulch down on a garden. I was really tired after that. So needless to say I skipped my run. I was tired. My back hurt. I figured I had gotten enough of a workout in!
I made my dad take a break to get a picture with his truck "Rambo." He's had this thing since he was 25. We used it to haul wood. Fun, huh?
So Saturday night I went to bed around 10:30. Again, it was kind of nice to hit the hay this early! Especially when I was tuckered.
Sunday morning I woke up to nicer weather and was determined not to miss out on my run. So I set out and was able to run the whole 5 miles, which is great! This route, while empty, is hilly! But I loved it, and definitely had a few Amber Atkins moments. (You know, in Drop Dead Gorgeous when she's practicing her tap routine while going to work??) I was jammin' to my music nice and good.
Beautiful day on Sunday. Here's our view of the lake. It's us and one other cabin on the lake, so it stays pretty quiet.
How Jack spent most of Sunday. Sleeping in the driveway. Yes, I know. I take too many pictures of him.
And that was the weekend! I've decided after a super active weekend I've earned a day off today. And tomorrow I have a tennis date with my brother!

Looks like a fun and relaxing weekend!
ReplyDeleteCool! What a fun weekend! I think working out side and gardening most definitely counts for a workout, but nice job hitting the run too!
ReplyDeleteI love running at the cabin too!
ReplyDeleteThat picture of Jack sound asleep is super cute.
Do you guys go swimming in your lake?
