Weekend Wrap Up: 5k and Pride!

Hello all!

I'm back after a whirlwind weekend.

Friday night I had to work my second job and then I spent the night chilling. Mostly because on Saturday, Sarah and I ran the Heartbeat 5000 5k race.

And we wanted to kick its ass. Our plan was to run it in less than a half hour! That's a pretty quick pace for both of us, but we were feeling good.

Saturday morning was a gorgeous one, but it was also HOT. I was happy there wasn't rain though.

The 5k started at Father Hennepin Park on Main Street in Northeast Minneapolis. I love, love running in this area, so I was excited to do a race there.

At the starting line!

With Amanda, another priorfatgirl. Happy I saw her there!

Sarah and I, ready to get our 3.1 in!

And we were off! Our pace was faster than normal and you could tell. We were both huffing and puffing. But it was only 3 miles so we kept at it.

Well about 1.7 miles in, I got a sideache. And it was a killer. But we kept going and I ran through the pain. We hit a hill that was hard and it was so, so hot.

All in all, this 5k was a BIOTCH.

Heat + sideache + hills = ouch. But we soldiered through and really kicked it in when we saw the finish line. Like couldn't feel my legs.

We were determined to run this in under a half hour. We're doing a 10k in a month and really want to do that in under an hour.

But as we sprinted toward the finish line, we both knew we couldn't make it! We were going as fast as we could and both felt close to death.

Final time: 30:22.

Even though we didn't hit our goal, I'm still mighty proud of us. This race was HARD. And 22 seconds over a goal ain't too shabby. Just means we have to train more! Oh, joy.

On the Stone Arch Bridge with the finish line in the background.

Sarah, ready to jump off the bridge it was so hot! Ha!

I heart the Stone Arch Bridge. What a pretty view!

When we finished there were snacks, so we dug in. And we met TC Bear!

So after the 5k was done, it was time to focus on the real point of the weekend: Pride!

We hit the town on Saturday night for a block party, which was mucho fun despite the rain.

With our dear friend Marty, who traveled from Sioux Falls.

Sunday was the Pride parade and beer garden. So much fun. Is every year. And the weather was perfect! Amen.

With my lifelong besties: Eric and Rob.

And I figured this post would be perfect to end full circle. With my 5k and running and tennis partner Sarah!

And tonight is another exciting event: the Eclipse premiere!! Yes, I'm a Twihard. Oops had I not admitted this to you guys yet? Post on that tomorrow!
