It was my first weekend in town in what feels like forever!
On Friday night, Nikki, Sarah, and I just watched movies and hung out. Felt nice to just sit around and do nothing.
Sarah and I were taking it easy because Saturday morning we finally took on the Heart of Summer 10k!
We got up nice and early and were both feeling pretty low key about it.
The route was just twice around Lake Nokomis. It was a really flat course, which was great. And it had rained the night before so it was cooler than it has been.
PS: Note how I have long sleeves on! That cover up came off shortly after Mile 1. Overdressed!
The race itself went OK. We ran the first mile in 9:13: great time! Then around Mile 2 I got a nasty sideache. If we were running a 5K I would have just run through it. But since we still had 4 miles to go, I had to walk a bit, which frustrated me because I otherwise felt great.
While we were walking though Sarah asked me how I was breathing. In this conversation I realized I run looking at the ground infront of me. She suggested that I might not be getting enough oxygen to my bod. So when I started running I consciously kept my head up and boy did it make a difference! And I kept putting my head down by habit, so I definitely do look down! Glad I'm now aware of this!
With my head up, miles 3-5 were pretty good. We did stop to talk a couple of times so that we could sprint at the end.
Around Mile 5 you could tell we were tired, but no point in stopping then. By the time we passed the 6-Mile marker we sprinted to the finish.
Total time: 1 hour 6 minutes. Not the under an hour we were shooting for, but I'll take it!

The post-race pic. I love how badass Sarah looks with her bandana on!
After the race is tagged along with Nikki, her mom, and her mom's fiancee to the New Hope Farmer's Market. Eric started this market last year (he works for the city of New Hope) and I hadn't been back since opening day.
Wow, what a great market! So many veggies! I bought baby new red potatoes and sugar snap peas. I made a stir fry with the peas Saturday night, Yum!
Then we went to Mall of America and Nikki had a party Saturday night. Phew, busy day!
Sunday was a productive one. I went to the Starkey Gala for work (and spotted a few celebs: Adrian Peterson, The Doobie Brothers, Jordin Sparks, Nick Lachey, Peter Alexander, and a few more) and then came home and cleaned and did laundry. It felt amazing!
But this weekend was an exhausting one! Now ready for the week! Happy Monday!
