What Friends Are For

On my nearly constant to-do list lately, blogging seems to come last. Trust me, I want to blog but sometimes I go the whole day and then think, "ek! I didn't blog!" Well, I know y'all can survive without me but I'm trying!

So I'll give you a little recap on my week so far, OK? OK!

The theme so far this week: my friends rock and really help me out.

Monday night I went over to Jessica's house for a dinner date. Jess is my vegan amiga and dang she is a good cook. She always makes somewhat adventurous dishes (well, for me) and I always gobble them right up. Monday was no exception. I texted her that I had tons of potatoes from the Farmer's Market left over and could bring them. She said great! And she was making a noodle soup. Hmm what to expect?

I got there and she was making Udon Noodle Soup. Something I've always wanted to try at restaurants but have been a bit cautious of. The soup was fab! Lots of veggies and the broth was great. Then she steamed the potatoes and put curry powder and a bunch of other spices on them. They were amazing too! And for appetizers we had these Vegan Munchees that I got at the Wedge. They were great! You get 12 for about $4 and they are 150 calories for 6 of them! Not too shabby for an app.

Of course I was a bad blogger and didn't take pics of any of the food, but it was fab. Everyone should really check out Jessica's blog. She amazes me. And she's been a great supporter in my whole getting healthy journey. I heart that she loves to cook healthy meals. And it works out, since I love to eat!

Then we took our doggies on a little walk around the neighborhood. It wasn't strenuous activity, but after skipping the gym Monday, I'll take it.

Then yesterday lunchtime hit and I had had a really stressful day. All I wanted to do was skip the gym and run to Chipotle. I KNEW I shouldn't do that, so I emailed Sarah. A call for help if you will. Here's what I said:

"I am TWO SECONDS away from going to get Chipotle and I brought my lunch and am skipping the gym to work. STOP ME!" (this is a copy/paste from my email to her)

Yeah, that's a cry for help.

But like a good friend, Sarah called within two seconds.

"Put down the burrito," she said. HAHA, good one. It continued. "Here's what you're going to do...grab your gym stuff and go to the gym. Even if it's just for a half hour."

Well that was just what I needed to hear. I stepped away from my nonstop work and went to the gym. I did a half hour of weight lifting and abs. Yeah, it wasn't the most intense workout but it was something! And I did feel rejuvenated when I got back to my desk. And the trip to the gym motivated me to eat the lunch I brought. Yay! Success.

What friends are for indeed.

Again today I'm too busy to go to the gym over lunch but it's beautiful out today so I'm determined to get a nice bike ride in after work. I haven't gone around the lakes in a while so I'm excited to hit the trails.

But have I mentioned to you guys why I'm so swamped? Well I'm in the middle of a project, but the more importantly: I'm going on vacation next week! I'm off to LA with Nikki and Eric for the WEEK! Should be amazing. It's what's keeping me going right now.

Of course before then I've got to get two weeks worth of work done in one, but once this week is over it's smooth sailing!

  2. I love to read about your progress. I've just started my journey. I gained 47lbs after the death of my nephew and I'm taking back my life. Check out my blog and let me know what you think.
